Carter Willis Shares Her Passion for Zines in Her Senior Four Point Project

Senior Four Point is an opportunity for twelfth-graders to draw from their collective Gould experiences and implement what they’ve learned into an independent project they are passionate about.

For Carter Willis ’25, this meant enrolling in the Longfellow Young Writers’ Camp at the University of Maine Farmington and self-publishing her own zine, “A Peek Inside,” filled with original artwork and poetry.
Throughout her project, she confronted complicated emotions and discovered how to express herself in new ways. She wanted to share what she learned and give back to the community, so she connected with Bethel Area Arts & Music (BAAM) to host a creative workshop with middle school students from the Eddy School in Newry, Maine. The workshop made such a significant impact on the students that the Eddy School has now added zine-making to their curriculum plans this year.

“I wanted to create a workshop for kids that highlighted creativity differently,” said Carter. “My goal was for them to leave the workshop with a new understanding of [how to be] creative with their emotions using zines. I'm so proud that [they] felt inspired to create poems of their own.”

At Gould, we value the holistic development of our students, emphasizing academic rigor, resilience, and a passion for learning and discovery. Carter exhibited that and more during her Senior Four Point Project and embodied Gould’s Values of Curiosity, Kindness, Creativity, and Courage.
