Arts at Gould Academy

Your creative process never had so many options.

Whether it’s throwing a pot on the wheel, soloing in the jazz ensemble, handcrafting a piece of jewelry, or singing in the spring musical, opportunities to find and develop your artistic passions abound at our small, private boarding school.

Gould’s Visual and Performing Arts Programs provide opportunities for self-discovery while challenging students to connect with their intellectual potential. These programs are an invaluable part of the Gould journey, and we’re well-equipped for them.

Gould Academy’s Distance Learning Partnership with the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) gives performing arts students the opportunity to pursue individual music lessons with MSM’s high caliber adjunct faculty. Students are thoughtfully paired with MSM faculty based on proficiency. The state-of-the-art video conference system provides for an extremely intimate lesson experience. Brass, wind, string, piano, percussion, and vocal lessons are available.

Gould artists have gone on to nurture their talents at schools such as the Pratt Institute, the Rhode Island School of Design and the Berklee College of Music.

Performing Arts

For those interested in performing arts, Gould has classes in music theory, music history, digital music production, various ensembles, and individual voice and instrument lessons through our Distance Partnership with the Manhattan School of Music are just a few of the opportunities that await you. Performing Arts students can also participate in two dramatic productions each year – a fall play and spring musical.

With 11 Steinway pianos on campus, Gould Academy shares the All-Steinway School designation with schools such as Juilliard and the Yale School of Music.

Visual Arts

The Owen Art Gallery provides quality exhibit space for our aspiring artists and established alumni artists to share their work with the greater community.

Art students have access to individual studio spaces on the second floor of the dedicated Owen Art Cottage.

For students who want to pursue their artistic endeavors beyond Gould, dedicated faculty members and College Counseling will guide them through the portfolio development process.

Students who have discovered their artistic passions at Gould have gone on to schools including the Rhode Island School of Design and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
