Juniors Begin Winter Camping Experience in Rainy Conditions

Gould Academy’s 11th-grade students have set out on their annual winter camping experience, a cornerstone of the Four Point program that challenges them to develop resilience, teamwork, and outdoor skills. This year, six groups are traveling to various hiking trails and public lands in western Maine and New Hampshire, each embarking on their own unique journey into the wilderness.
The groups are facing unseasonably warm temperatures and melting snow, which will add unusual challenges to their experience. Students will need to adapt their plans, adjusting for changing terrain and potential shifts in weather.

Throughout the trip, they will work together to navigate the elements, set up campsites, and cook meals outdoors—all while embracing the personal and collective growth that comes from time spent in nature. As always, experienced faculty and alumni are accompanying each group to ensure a safe and rewarding journey.

The winter camping experience is designed to push students outside their comfort zones, fostering independence, confidence, and a deeper connection to the natural world. Whether battling wet conditions or unexpected warmth, this year's juniors are sure to return with stories of adventure, perseverance, and discovery.
