Huskies Claim Second in Northern New England Mountain Bike Series
The Gould Academy Mountain Bike Team earned second place in the Eastern Division of the Northern New England Mountain Bike Series. The Huskies showed their skills and determination, competing against teams from Maine and New Hampshire, including Chop Point, Kents Hill School, Camden Hills, Fryeburg Academy, Kennett High School, Southern Maine Syndicate, and Carrabassett Valley Academy.
"Our team came together in such an inspiring way this season," says Head Coach Cathy Fisher. "They each brought unique skills and strengths, and every single rider scored points for the team. That’s an incredible achievement. The energy was fantastic, right through the last week of the season. They were so eager to ride that they even wanted to stay out in the dark with lights on. Despite coming from different social circles on campus, they’ve built such a supportive, fun, and close-knit team. It’s been amazing to watch them connect and grow together as a truly cohesive group."
The season featured strong individual performances among nearly 400 riders in the league.
Parker Nellis ’25, from Bethel, Maine, displayed very strong performances at the Berlin Gorham race and the home race at Pine Hill, where he "just knew what he wanted to do, prepared himself as any high-level athlete should, and dominated those races." according to Coach Fisher. He plans to continue racing at the collegiate level next year.
Lucie Jezkova ’25, from Prague, Czech Republic, stood out in her second season of racing. Lucie had a remarkable season, scoring an impressive 300 points for the team—an achievement described by coaches as “insane.” Every race saw her crossing the finish line in first or second place. She gained strength and consistency with each race. Alongside teammate Sam Krizo, she served as a mentor and positive role model, fostering an inclusive and supportive team atmosphere.
Sam Krizo ’25 took on the challenge of moving into the most competitive racing category with his coach’s encouragement, later seeing it as a good choice. Known for his inclusivity and kindness, he not only excelled on the course with speed and skill but also created a welcoming, team-focused environment that inspired his teammates.
Lewis Andersen ’26 was an important contributor to the team's success and approached the season with a positive, autonomous mindset.
Brooks Oyler ’26 demonstrated significant progress and improvement throughout the season, far exceeding his initial goal of placing in the top 100 riders.
Lauren Pelletier ’26 is a supportive team member and manager whose encouragement made a difference in the team's performance.
Ezra Tsapis ’27 brought infectious enthusiasm, especially for riding features and enduro-style challenges. Mid-season, he moved up to a more competitive category and improved his placing in every race. His joy inspired teammates to tackle new obstacles and boosted team confidence.
Bella Hamadeh ’28 started the season in the girls' C category, securing podium finishes in her first races. At Camden Hills, she outpaced all the C girls and boys, prompting a move to the A category. Though nervous, Bella rose to the challenge, placing third in her first A race.
