International Peace Day at Gould

From Adam Leff P’15,’17, Director of Civic Engagement and World Languages Department Chair:

Gould Academy celebrated International Peace Day with a variety of activities promoting peace and inclusion across the school community. The day featured a keynote by Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline, who shared Lewiston's success in fostering inclusion through community programs and services, and emphasized the global impact of local actions. Mayor Sheline also visited US History and Comparative Government classes, engaging students in discussions and encouraging them to get involved in community initiatives, volunteerism, and peacebuilding.
Throughout the week, students participated in a range of peace-focused activities. They captured peace messages at a Peace Day Photo Booth, signed Peace Day posters for display around campus, and painted "Peace rocks" to be placed throughout the school grounds as reminders of peace. In English classes, students read peace-themed poetry and crafted origami cranes, learning about the crane’s connection to International Peace Day. Daily meditation sessions also helped foster mindfulness and reflection.

These activities highlighted Gould Academy's commitment to peace, inclusion, and community engagement, inspiring students to contribute to a more peaceful world.

Anthony Long ’25 ran a Peace Day Video Booth where students could take a moment to speak about what peace means to them. This reel is the result of his remarkable work.
