Author Alex Myers Joins Gould for Richard Blanco Readers Series

Gould Academy is proud to welcome Alex Myers, a celebrated writer and transgender activist, to its community for the Richard Blanco Readers Series on Thursday, April 13. The reading is in Bingham Auditorium at 7:00 p.m., is open to the public, and will be followed by refreshments and a book signing in the cafe on the lower level of Hanscom Hall. Books will be available for purchase.
“We are so excited to welcome Alex Myers to Gould both as a celebrated writer and as a transgender activist,” says English Department Chair and Richard Blanco Reading Series Coordinator Courtney Eichacker. “Students will have the opportunity to learn about his craft and writing influences as well as gain empathy and understanding from Alex's experiences which will improve and promote inclusivity and belonging for transgender youth on our campus.”

During the class day on Friday, Myers will engage the Gould community with writing workshops and a discussion of his book, Supporting Transgender Students.

As an author, Alex Myers has gained critical acclaim for his works of historical fiction. His debut novel, "Revolutionary," is a retelling of the American Revolution from the perspective of a transgender man who fought in the Continental Army. His second novel, "Continental Divide," explores the lives of two women who fall in love in the rugged wilderness of the early American West.

In July of 2022, Myers was named the Director of the Mountain School in Vershire, Vermont. As a transgender activist, he speaks at schools and universities around the country to advocate for transgender rights.

The Richard Blanco Readers Series is a semi-annual event that brings notable authors to the Gould community. The series is named for renowned poet Richard Blanco, who read his poem, “One Today” at Barack Obama’s second inauguration. In March of 2023, Blanco received a National Humanities Medal from President Joe Biden.
