Three Gould Juniors Earn National Ski Patrol Jackets at Sunday River
This winter, three Gould Academy juniors—Clare Greene ’26, Brandon Philip ’26, and Brenna Fraser ’26—achieved a milestone that sets them apart in ski safety and rescue. Through Gould’s renowned Ski Patrol program, they completed hundreds of hours of training and testing with Sunday River’s professional patrol team, earning their official jackets as National Ski Patrol members before their senior year.
Gould Academy’s Ski Patrol program is the only high school program in the country recognized by the National Ski Patrol. Under the leadership of Doug Alford P’18, ’20, Ski Patrol Program Director, students undergo rigorous hands-on training, learning everything from emergency medical care to avalanche awareness and on-mountain rescue techniques. Working alongside seasoned Sunday River patrollers, they gain real-world experience managing ski area safety, responding to incidents, and assisting injured skiers.
Earning a patrol jacket is a significant accomplishment that takes commitment—achieving it before senior year is a rare feat few Gould students have accomplished. In addition to passing intensive first aid and outdoor emergency care exams, candidates must demonstrate technical proficiency in handling toboggans, responding to real-life rescue scenarios, and navigating complex mountain conditions.
For Greene, Phillip, and Fraser, this achievement represents months of dedication, skill development, and commitment to mountain safety. As they step into their new roles, they join a legacy of Gould Ski Patrol graduates who have gone on to patrol at resorts across the country.
Congratulations to these three Huskies on this impressive accomplishment!
