Barstow Qualifies for Junior Nationals as Gould Nordic Athletes Excel in Championship Season

The Gould Nordic Team continues their incredible streak, with athletes delivering standout performances across multiple competitions. The season's biggest news—Lucas Barstow ’25 has been selected to represent New England at Junior Nationals as one of only eight U18 skiers chosen for the event. Barstow will compete in Soldier Hollow, Utah, March 10-15, 2025.
Barstow’s selection followed his win at the Sassi Memorial, where he was named Maine’s top U18 male skier. Kate Carlson ’27 also had a top performance at Sassi, finishing second in the state. The Huskies dominated the competition, with the men taking five of the top ten spots and the women securing three of the top six.

The momentum carried into the Middlebury Eastern Cup/Carnival, where Parker Nellis ’25 podiumed with a third-place finish in the U18 category. Barstow placed 12th among U18 skiers, and Carlson finished 12th for the U18 women. Gould tenth-grader Mallory Raymond finished ninth among U16s, capping off a season that saw her ranked 12th in the East.

Two Gould alumni also qualified for Junior Nationals: Nyla Scott ’24 (Colby ’28) and Ellis Slover ’24 (Colby ’28).

Head Nordic Coach Ben Kamilewicz ’95 reflected on the team’s performance.

“[The Middlebury Eastern Cup/Carnival] showcased our athletes coming into peak form right as we enter championship season,” said Kamilewicz. “Parker Nellis proved he is one of the best classic distance specialists in the East with his podium finish, and Barstow’s dedication earned him a second trip to Junior Nationals. It’s also exciting to see our alumni competing at the college level and excelling on the Eastern Carnival Circuit.”

It’s worth noting that Gould took first place for boys and second for girls at the NEPSAC Championships at Dublin School earlier this season. Good luck in your championship runs, Gould Nordic!
