Kailey Snow Sports Center Re-Opened with Community Celebration

Gould Academy and Sunday River recently celebrated the Grand Re-Opening of the Kailey Snow Sports Center following significant renovations prompted by flood damage. The ceremony, attended by over 100 alumni, donors, GACP families, and community members, marked a rebirth for the building. The event highlighted the center’s renewed role in supporting all of Gould’s snow sports programs and strengthening the longstanding partnership between Gould and Sunday River.
The Kailey Snow Sports Center, originally named the Paul G. Kailey Competition Center in 2003, is the home base for all of Gould’s snow sports programs, including the Gould Academy Competition Program (GACP). Located at the base of Barker Mountain at Sunday River, the facility supports recreational and competitive athletes with spaces for gatherings, video analysis, dryland conditioning, and coaches' offices.
Peter Kailey, Paul Kailey’s son, and graduate of Gould’s class of 1969, joined Deb Costello, Gould’s Competition Program Manager, to cut the ceremonial ribbon. Peter Kailey reflected on his father’s legacy as a dedicated teacher, coach, and advocate for skiing at Gould, as well as the significant role of the Trinwood family in establishing Sunday River as a premier ski destination.

Tao Smith, Gould’s Head of School, and Matt Erickson, Sunday River’s Gould partnership liaison, also spoke during the ceremony. Erickson highlighted the enduring partnership between Sunday River and Gould, emphasizing how the collaboration has enriched both organizations and supported generations of athletes. Smith underscored the significance of the Kailey Snow Sports Center as a space that fosters skill development, teamwork, and a love for the outdoors.

Following the remarks, attendees enjoyed food and drinks while touring the renovated facility, sharing stories, and reflecting on its impact. The gathering celebrated the connections between Gould, Sunday River, and the wider community, reaffirming a shared commitment to supporting student-athletes at all levels.

The rededicated Kailey Snow Sports Center is a testament to the strength of the relationship between Gould Academy and Sunday River, ensuring that snow sports remain central to the Gould experience.
