Gould Academy’s Alpine Training Camps are available to Gould students and non-students alike and provide an excellent opportunity to experience high quality early season training. Gould’s training home, Sunday River Resort, is known to be the best early season training venue in the East. Because of the popularity in the past, we expect these camps to fill by early Fall, so register soon!


2017 Alpine Training Camps & Trips


U14 Les Deux Alps Summer Training Camp

Training Camp AlpsDepart Thursday June 22 and Return Sunday July 2, 2017

We are running this Summer’s on snow camp for current and rising U14s at Les Deux Alps in France. Les Deux Alps offers outstanding conditions on the largest glacier in Europe. Camp focus will be fundamentals as well as Giant Slalom and Slalom. Lodging will be at one of several Hotels in the village, walking distance to the lift. We will be 7 days on snow plus a day off snow day with activities.

November Fundamentals Camp

TBD – November 2017 at Sunday River (for birth years 2003-2007)
Three and a half days of on-snow training with a focus on fundamental skills and movement patterns through free skiing and drill work. Athletes will be grouped by age and experience with an athlete to coach ratio of approximately 8:1. There will be video analysis, a dryland training session in the Gould fieldhouse, and an evening guest speaker.

Cost: $525 (with lift ticket) | $425 (without lift for Sunday River pass holders)


Pre-Holiday SL/GS Camp

TBD – December 2017 at Sunday River (for birth years 2003-2007)
Three and one half days of on-snow training with two days of slalom followed by one and a half days of giant slalom. There will be gate drills leading into full length courses in both disciplines, along with video analysis, a dryland session in the Gould fieldhouse, and an evening guest speaker.

Cost: $525 (with lift ticket) | $425 (without lift for Sunday River pass holders)


2017 Freestyle Training Camps


Trampoline/Rails Camp

June 25-30, 2017 at Gould

At our Gould Competition Program Trampoline/Rails Camp, athletes will have the opportunity to prepare for the winter through a variety of activities. They will use Gould’s tramp room and foam pit to practice tricks and will work on improving fitness.

Weather permitting, campers will also have the opportunity to train rails “on snow” on Sunday Rivers infamous T-72 park trail. The Gould Freestyle/Freeskiing Coaches and Sundays Rivers Parks Crew have joined forces to provide this unique opportunity to train rails on snow in late June!

Cost per week: $850 | Coed ages 8­-16
(includes lodging, meals, and transportation during stay)

March Freestyle Camp

March 18-21 at Sunday River
March is awesome!  The Parks at Sunday River are in their prime and the weather and snow conditions are at their best. This is the time to put all your hard work from the season together by utilizing Gould’s trampoline, BigAirBag and the mountain’s prime conditions. Freestyle groups will work on putting together a solid run utilizing Gould’s trampoline facility and airbag. The cost of this three and a half day camp covers coaching and lift tickets. There is lodging available at Sunday River Resort and in the town of Bethel at special camp rates.

Early Season Freestyle Camp

This camp is all about getting back on-snow early at Sunday River Resort where there is the most reliable snow in the East. Sunday River provides great snow and terrain features that you don’t want to miss out out on, and this camp focuses on getting your jump and rail game back and progressing to the next level. The cost of this three and a half day camp is covers coaching and lift tickets. There is lodging available at Sunday River Resort and in the town of Bethel at special camp rates.

2017 Snowboarding Training Camps


USASA Nationals Snowboard Prep Camp: (SS, BX, GS, SL, BSL, and RJ)

March 18- 21 at Sunday River
With USASA regional competition season closed and invitations to the National Championships in the mail, this camp provides the time to put those finishing touches on training for the big event. Freestyle groups will work on putting together a solid run utilizing Gould’s trampoline facility and airbag. Race groups will focus on everything from terrain matching, pumping, and passing techniques, to fundamentals, course inspection techniques, and race tactics. The cost of this three and a half day camp covers coaching, lift tickets, and a final written and video assessment. There is lodging available at Sunday River Resort and in the town of Bethel at special camp rates.

training campSeason Kickstart Camp: (Freestyle or Race)

TBD – December 2017 at Sunday River
This camp focuses on starting the season off right by using the best progression terrain in the East at Sunday River Resort. Freestyle riders will work on taking their tricks from the trampoline to an airbag to on-snow. This group will also session rails to dial-in new tricks for competition season ahead. The race group will train on all aspects of snowboard racing (BX, GS, SL and BSL) by focusing on sound fundamental skills for turning, gliding, air, and starts. Gates will also be set and we’ll use all possible open terrain to improve speed performance. The cost of this three and a half day camp covers coaching, lift tickets, and a final written and video assessment. There is lodging available at Sunday River Resort and in the town of Bethel at special camp rates.

Boys’ Junior Varsity Soccer Coach

Bio

Coach Gandee brings over 15 years of experience to the Gould Academy Competition Program’s Snowboard Team. A graduate of Eastern Mennonite University, he earned a degree in management and organizational development, and later spent 10 years working at resorts including Stratton, Okemo, Killington, Northstar, and Sierra at Tahoe. Most recently, he was the Snowboard Program Director at Killington Mountain School in Vermont. Coach Gandee’s list of credentials is extensive. In addition to being on the AASI National Team from 2004 until 2008, he is Level III certified, an examiner for the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI), and a USSA Level 300 SBX Coach and Level 200 Aerials coach. In his spare time, he also serves as the coach representative on the USASA Board of Directors. When not coaching (or preparing to coach), Coach Gandee spends time on the Hudson River Gorge in the Adirondacks as a whitewater rafting guide. He is an avid rock climber and loves exploring rivers and lakes with his wife, Courtney, and their two golden retrievers.

John Kimble

Bio

Coach Kimble has been Freestyle/Freeride skiing at Sunday River since the age of 6. After attending the University of Southern Maine, his passion for skiing led him to Lake Tahoe, Calif. where he skied for the Atomic Freeride Team. Coach Kimble moved back to Maine in 2003 to be closer to his family, friends, and home mountain, and has been coaching at Gould ever since. He has earned his ASEP, EMT, USASA Level II, USSA Level II Mogul, USSA Level III Aerials, and ISSA Strength and Conditioning and Youth Fitness certifications. When winter is over you can still find Coach Kimble working with freestyle/freeride athletes in Gould’s fitness and trampoline training facilities, at the Lake Placid or Quebec training complexes, or on the Mount Hood glacier, coaching summer freestyle ski training camps. Mr. Kimble resides in Newry with his wife, Carrie, their son, Caleb, and daughter, Ellyn.

U14 Alpine Coach

Bio

Coach Niiler began teaching and coaching in the Franconia Ski School at Cannon Mountain in 1982. From there he moved to King Pine ski area, where he stayed for 28 years as their Ski School Director, Terrain Parks Supervisor, and Race Team Head Coach. During this time the King Pine Race Team became known as “small but mighty,” producing numerous athletes who made post-season appearances at Eastern and Can-Am Championships, and even a National Championship event. Coach Niiler is PSIA Level 3 certified, USSA certified, and is a former member of the PSIA Eastern Development Team and Education Staff.
