Wellness Week at Gould: A Time for Fun, Connection, and Self-Discovery

Gould Academy's Wellness Week kicked off with Winter Carnival on Monday, celebrating the season and our place in the world. The faculty pumped everyone up with an inflatable costume parade to kick things off and despite the brutal cold, Advisory “Notch” Groups embraced the spirit of the day with fat bike races, sledding, soccer, and a good old-fashioned tug-of-war. There were plenty of opportunities to warm up with snacks and hot chocolate, and the fun continued into the night with a student-organized Rail Jam for freestyle skiers and snowboarders. Thanks to Max Hanson ’25 and Coach Damian Dryjas ’11, for organizing such a successful event.
On Day Two, the adventure continued with a trip to Bridgton Academy for a friendly broomball Notch competition. Students returned to campus for a formal dinner, followed by Snow Ball, Gould’s winter dance. Dressed to impress, students spent the evening dancing, snapping photos in the photo booth, and enjoying the camaraderie of friends.

The fun culminated on Wednesday with Wellness Day. Students headed out to various workshops and events around the state, from sledding in Weld and ice climbing in Grafton Notch to roller skating and escape rooms. Some relaxed with yoga, and others learned the art of sushi rolling. A few students stayed local and caught a movie at the Gem Theater in Bethel, while another group traveled long distances for a mountain adventure at Cranmore. Whatever their choice, it was a day dedicated to blowing off some steam and connecting with friends—just what our students need to recharge and reflect on all they’ve accomplished this year.

At Gould, we believe in fostering a balanced approach to life, where academic challenges are met with opportunities for exploration and self-discovery. Wellness Week was a perfect reflection of this, providing students with time to connect with their peers and explore new passions, all while embracing the natural world around them.
