Faculty and Staff Updates: New Roles and New Faces

We're happy to share the following staff additions and role changes for the new school year. 

Current Employee Updates

Abigail Adams

Dr. Adams, who joined the English Department mid-year last year, teaches AP Literature and American Literature and supports theater productions. With a PhD from the University of Texas and degrees from Cambridge and Williams, her expertise lies in medieval literature.

Jessica Adams

After a busy summer filled with housing Gould Summer Camps, Jessica enters her fourth year at Gould with a promotion to Lead Housekeeper. She thrives in the fast-paced nature of her work and enjoys interacting with the students.

Megan Ahearn

After completing her fellowship at Gould, Megan transitions into a full-time role as Assistant U16 Alpine Coach. A former NCAA Division 1 skier and Level 200 US Ski and Snowboard certified coach, she’ll also assist the Girls’ Soccer and Lacrosse teams.

Doug Alford

With over three decades of teaching Spanish at Gould, Doug is now moving to the Academic Skills Department. He’ll continue to advise, support the Thursday Night Band, and coach Ski Patrol and Outing Club.

John Anderson

Returning for his second year at Gould, John takes on the role of Assistant U18 Alpine Coach, working closely with Parker Gray. John, a Level 300 US Ski and Snowboard certified coach, also supports the Mountain Biking team in spring and fall.

Meghan Costello

A graduate of Gould in the Class of 2011, Meghan becomes the Head U18 Women’s Alpine Coach this season. Her experience includes leadership roles at Scotland’s Alpine Training Centre, Waterville Valley Academy, and Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club.

Sarah Crockett

Sarah transitions from the 8th Grade team to the high school Science Department and is the new Holden Dorm Head. She’s focused on building a vibrant and safe community, integrating experiential learning into dorm life, and mentoring student leaders.

Maggie Davis

Starting her sixth year at Gould, Maggie serves as the Director of College Counseling, guiding students through their transition to college and life beyond Gould.

Cathy Fisher

Cathy is Gould's Sports Mental Performance Coach and Head Cycling Coach. Cathy works with competitive snow sports athletes in all disciplines, both preseason and winter, offering support for athletes in training, races, and competitions. She is certified as a mental performance consultant (CMPC), the "gold standard" in Sport and Performance Psychology.

Shane Farris

With over a decade at Gould, Shane has been promoted to Food Service Director, where he continues to enhance the dining experience for students and staff.

Wyatt Gormsen

A University of Virginia graduate, Wyatt discovered his passion for teaching through his work at a summer camp for boys in western Maine. In his second year, he returns as a Holden Dorm Parent and continues to support Boy's Lacrosse as an Assistant Coach. Wyatt joined the Teaching Fellows program in 2023 after a gap year in Colorado.

Parker Gray

Gould alum and former coach Parker Gray ’97 returned as our Head Alpine Coach in May. Parker leads our Alpine staff and coaches the U18 Men. With recent experience on the World Cup Tech Team and a background in strength and conditioning for the U.S. Ski Team, he brings extensive knowledge and expertise to our program.

Stephen Gray

Stephen transitions from the 8th Grade team to the high school Math Department and supporting the Winter Term Math program.

Kaleb Guinn

As the Interim Head Coach, Kaleb leads Gould’s new Competitive Enduro team. This program mirrors the structure and intensity of our competitive snow sports program, ensuring a high level of training and competition. Kaleb’s expertise as a technical bike mechanic and park rider makes this a natural program evolution.

Marisa Hanning

In her fifth year at Gould, Marisa is now a Gehring Dorm Parent, a full-time Communications Marketing Associate, and an Assistant Varsity Alpine Coach/Recruiting Liaison. A UMaine Farmington graduate, having coached early ages to Division 1 athletes, she brings over a decade of coaching experience to the role.

Alex Habig

Alex, a third-year Fellow, steps into the Interim Head Ski Cross Coach role after serving as an Assistant Coach last year. An Easton, Massachusetts native, he brings a strong background as a former Division 1 skier with a Sports Management degree from Colby-Sawyer College.

Kimmie Johnston

A familiar face in Gehring Dorm, Kimmie is stepping into the role of Gehring Dorm Head this year. Known for her work in the school store, as well as the support she’s given for years in Gehring, she’s most excited to see the dorm come alive as students return and decorate their rooms.

Jeff Lathrop

A Gould graduate from the Class of 2009, Jeff returns to work alongside Craig Niiler as the Assistant U14 Alpine Coach. A Bates College graduate and former NCAA Division I alpine skier, Jeff first coached at Gould in 2013, then as Alpine Head Coach at Clarkson University, and returned to Gould in 2021.

Megumi Moses

Entering her seventh year at Gould, Megumi is promoted to International Student Coordinator, continuing to enhance the experience of international students, faculty, and staff. She also continues to serve as Davidson Dorm Head, making the dorm a true home for students with fun activities like cooking, BBQs, dodgeball games, and seasonal events.

Brett Shifrin

Returning for his 27th year at Gould, Brett leads the Math Department and brings his extensive soccer coaching experience to the field as the Head Girls’ Soccer Coach. A USSF B License Coach, Brett is dedicated to fostering a positive growth mindset in student-athletes.

Katie Stack

As previously announced in April, Ms. Stack has been promoted to Dean of Community Life and Belonging. She is dedicated to enhancing student well-being, community engagement, and inclusivity through strategic planning and program development. Her proven leadership at Gould and expertise in adolescent development guide her efforts in overseeing community life, student wellness, and residential programs.

Julia Tatsch

Drawing on 14 years of experience with students with language-based learning differences, Julia re-focuses her skills in the Academic Skills Program. Additionally, her skills and abilities enhance the community as Gould’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) coordinator.

New Faces at Gould

In addition to these internal moves, we have new faces who joined Gould in the spring or who are joining us in August for the 24-25 academic year and beyond.

Charlotte Frenier

Charlotte, a recent Colby College graduate and track team captain, joins Gould as a Spanish teacher, Assistant Girls Soccer Coach, and Ski Instructor Program Coach. She is also a Gehring Dorm Parent.

Michael Hirschbuhl

Michael joined Gould in May as the Head U16 Alpine Coach and is now a Gehring Dorm Parent. A Castleton University graduate, he previously coached U18 and U16 alpine skiers at Killington Mountain School and Okemo Mountain School. Michael is also a volunteer firefighter with Bethel Fire, an EMT with Bethel Rescue, and a member of the Mahoosuc Mountain Search and Rescue Team.

Walter Kriesien

Walter, also joining as a Fellow, is a Holden Dorm Parent, Athletic Game Day support, and assists with All Mountain Skiing and Mountain Biking. A University of New England graduate with student teaching experience in Biddeford, Maine, he’s interested in exploring international English teaching.

Elisa Lellios

A lifelong independent school teacher and admissions administrator, Elisa joins the Gould team as the Director of Admissions, bringing comprehensive experience in all aspects of the admissions process.

Dean Miller

Dean is Gould’s new Strength and Conditioning Coach, holding a master’s degree from Colby-Sawyer College. He recently worked at Proctor Academy and passed his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam over the summer.

Ethan Martin

Ethan joins Gould as a Fellow with an engineering background. A graduate of WPI with a Master’s in Science, he’s interested in becoming a STEM teacher and is eager to contribute his engineering and entrepreneurial skills to the IDEAS Center. He supports the Theater program and Varsity Alpine Skiing.

John Henry Paluszek

John Henry joins Gould as a Science teacher and Nordic Coach. A Magna Cum Laude graduate from Castleton University, and earned his MS in Botany with an emphasis in Science Education from the University of Wyoming. He brings experience from Killington Mountain School and is a Davidson Dorm Parent.

Scott Scharlach

Scott, Gould’s new Physics teacher and Soccer Coach, recently earned his MS in Teaching Physics and Astronomy from Tufts University. He’s eager to collaborate with the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum and enhance experiential learning in the sciences.

Ashley Smith

Ashley joins Gould as the new Science Department Chair and Chemistry teacher. An experienced educator with a Master’s in Science Education from the University of Pennsylvania, she’s also served as an Adjunct Professor at Naugatuck Community College.

Michaela Ward

With a diverse background in graphic design, sales, and office management, Michaela joins the admissions team to support and coordinate office operations as the Admissions Coordinator.
