Fall Family Weekend at Gould was a joyful, sun-soaked gathering that perfectly embodied the school’s core values of curiosity, creativity, courage, and kindness. Over four days, families, students, and faculty came together to share meaningful experiences, reflecting Gould’s belief that everything is built around connection.

The weekend began Thursday evening with the Richard Blanco Reading Series, featuring Portland’s Poet Laureate Emeritus, Maya Williams. The event exemplified Gould’s commitment to curiosity, as Maya’s poetry inspired thoughtful questions and conversations that extended well into the dessert reception and book signing afterward. Parents mingled with faculty and students, enjoying the opportunity to connect while exploring new ideas and perspectives.

Friday saw families diving into a full day of activities. Parent/Teacher Conferences and DEIB Council meetings created spaces for personal connection and growth, illustrating how Gould celebrates individuality while fostering connections. Whether on the lower fields for the Boys JV Soccer game or during the parent reception at the newly renovated Kailey Snow Sports Center at Sunday River, the sense of community was palpable. These gatherings showcased Gould’s kindness, as everyone—from parents to faculty—engaged with one another in a spirit of inclusivity and warmth, helping new families feel welcome and part of the fold.

Saturday’s Family Assembly was a vibrant celebration of creativity and talent. Student musicians, speakers, and leaders shared their skills on stage, showing how Gould nurtures creativity and joy in everyday life. The assembly reinforced that no matter a student’s interests, they’ll find students and mentors who encourage their growth and share in their journey.

Many families appreciated the information sessions hosted by the College Counseling team. They underscored the expertise found at Gould and the bright future awaiting our students. Led by experienced counselors and guest speakers, these sessions guided families through key aspects of the college admissions process, from navigating financial aid to exploring collegiate snow sports opportunities. Families left with a deep appreciation for the personalized support their students receive at Gould, helping them take confident steps toward their next adventure.

The afternoon's athletic events offered a chance for families to witness firsthand the courage their students display on the field and in competition. Whether it was the Varsity Soccer matches, Field Hockey game, or Mountain Biking race, Gould students exhibited perseverance, teamwork, and the confidence to take risks—values that are central to their experience here.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with a Strategic Plan Coffee Hour and a presentation on the Four Point experiential learning program. This final gathering brought together families and administrators to discuss the exciting future of Gould and to celebrate the many ways the school continues to foster curiosity, creativity, courage, and kindness in its students. A farewell brunch followed, giving everyone one last chance to reflect on a weekend filled with connection, growth, and shared joy.

Fall Family Weekend 2024 was a true reflection of Gould’s values and the vibrant, supportive community that makes this school such a special place.
