Gould Academy Announces Renaming of Kailey Competition Center to Kailey Snow Sports Center

Gould Academy is pleased to announce the renaming of the "Kailey Competition Center" to the "Kailey Snow Sports Center," effective immediately. This change reflects our commitment to inclusivity and recognizes the diverse range of snow-based activities in which our students participate at Sunday River.

The Kailey Snow Sports Center will continue to serve as a hub for all students engaged in snow sports, including alpine skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, and freestyle skiing. It will also continue to serve as the home of the Gould Academy Competition Program (GACP), a weekend program for advanced skiers and snowboarders ages 8 to 19.

The new name embraces the spirit of community and inclusivity, ensuring that all students feel welcome and represented, while helping them feel comfortable in a space that reflects the wide variety of snow sports experiences at Gould.
"Our goal at Gould Academy is to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all our students," said Mark Godomsky, Dean of Athletics and Experiential Programs. "By renaming the center, we acknowledge and celebrate the broad spectrum of snow sports that our students are passionate about. The Kailey Snow Sports Center will continue to be a place where students can come together, train, and excel in their chosen disciplines."

The decision to rename the center was made after extensive discussions with students, faculty, alumni, and members of the community. The new name continues to honor the legacy of the Kailey family, whose generous support has been instrumental in the development of our snow sports programs. It also coincides with the rebuilding of the center that was damaged by an avalanche in December 2023, which is expected to be complete by October 2024.

Gould Academy remains committed to fostering a love of snow sports and providing top-notch facilities and coaching to our students. The Kailey Snow Sports Center will continue to host training sessions, competitions, and events that bring together our community of snow sports enthusiasts.
