Zach Bouchard ’15 Places Top 10 at US National Championship
Bethel, Maine (March 3, 2015)–Gould Academy senior and competition program racer, Zach Bouchard, will come back from the USSA U-18 National Championship with a ninth place finish out of 55 student athletes competing in giant slalom.
According to Coach Gray, “Zach had a pretty awesome day yesterday in the U-18 National Champs GS race. He battled his way from a 36th start position to place ninth overall. The highlight of the day was Zach’s second run. He was third fastest down the course –.37 seconds off of the leader.”
The U-18 National Championship kicked off at Copper Mountain in Colorado on February 27 and runs until March 6. It is a national event that showcases the best of the best in Alpine ski racing for ages 16 to 18 in slalom, giant slalom, downhill, and super G races.
Four of Gould’s student-athletes made the Eastern Region’s limited U-18 list including Zach, Will Kannegieser ’15, Maddie Simard ’16, and Ryan Clermont 16′.
In addition to Zach’s ninth place finish, he will also receive a “Regions Cup” award based on place points accumulated throughout the four-event series. “Only the top 10 overall score points for their region,” Coach Gray says. “I believe the last contributor GACP had was Bump Heldman back in 2007.”
