At her side, as her assistant coach, is her father Kaz Yamada—a familiar On Snow Coach at Gould for much longer than his daughter. But what is it like for the duo to coach together?

“It is so much fun,” says Anna, “even more fun coming from being his player.” Her dad coached her in soccer, skiing, as well as lacrosse.

“It’s different but so much fun,” Anna adds. “Now our roles have totally flipped. I tell him he can’t be so hard on the players. I remind him, ‘They’re not your kids.’ It’s always good to have someone who can level you out.”

The team is off to a good start, winning their first match 10–7 against Kents Hill.

‘The girls did really well, and I am super proud,” says Anna.

On May 8, the team will compete at home against Kents Hill, and parents are encouraged to come and cheer them on. (Spectators are not permitted at away matches this spring.)

As the final match of the season, the team will celebrate Senior Day. It also just happens to be Kaz Yamada’s birthday.
