Xi’an: It’s the final countdown…..

February 27, 2012

Team Xi’an (AKA-the coolest group of kids to ever to travel to China) spent a very busy final day here in sunny Shaanxi province.  Today started with classes, followed by a trip to a small village in Huxian county where we spent the bulk of the day.  In the village we toured a traditional Chinese home (fast becoming a rarity in this rapidly-modernizing nation), saw a traditional drum-and-dragon dance, had a traditional lunch(oh my, but we are well fed here!), and visited the studio of an artist both nationally and internationally known for his peasant paintings. It was a day of traditions!

Traditional home, traditional goat included.

After returning to our school, students saw presentations by art teachers on calligraphy, painting, and paper cutting, and even got to participate.

The day ended with a magnificent banquet with all of the students, host students, and teachers from Xi’an Foreign Languages School before heading home to pack and get a good night’s rest before our veryveryvery looooooooooong day of travel tomorrow (which also happens to be Will Kannegieser’s birthday!!).

The birthday boy. Will, the hand goes the other way.

To our hosts, guides, teachers, and families here in Xi’an, we say “Xie xie!” We hope to see many of you in Bethel someday!
