Will NBC’s Dumont Cup coverage feature Gould freeskier Riley McDonough ’15?
If you’re a midnight owl and love freeskiing you won’t want to miss coverage of the Dumont Cup tonight/tomorrow morning at 12:00am on NBC Sports.
Sources say that NBC took a lot of footage of Gould’s own Riley McDonough ’15 (right) who placed 19th overall in the competition.
Well done! Chances seem very good that he’ll get some t.v. time.
What’s the Dumont Cup? It’s a premiere event hosted by Sunday River that showcases elite pro freeskiers from around the world as well as amateurs who want to compete at the platinum level. The event was started by Bethel, ME native and freeskier Simon Dumont. This year’s event was held March 23-24.
Gould Head Freestyle Coach John Kimble says that over the last year, Riley competed in the USSA EQS circuit in moguls, aerials and slopestyle with a goal of being on the podium at every event he entered.
“He did just that,” said Kimble. “By the end of the season he qualified for the USSA Eastern Championships and placed 2nd overall. This year, he has focused on slopestyle and not only tied for first in the USASA Maine Mountain Series for his age group (age 13-15) but also finished the season ranked in the top 20 in the Eastern Division USSA rankings.”
Not to mention his 19th overall finish at the Dumont Cup.
Other Gould Academy freestyle skiers you might see tonight on NBC are Kyler Walker ’15 and Aaron Milligan ’16.
Damian Dryjas ’12, Connor Kelly ’14, and Will Halper ’14 also competed in the Dumont Cup.
