What’s happening with my classes
I officially feel back at school now, seeing as how I have completed a full week. I’m finally getting back into the swing of things and classes are really picking up. I’ll do a little run down of what we’re doing in my classes.
In AP Literature we read the novel ATONEMENT over the break, and now are writing a paper with any topic we want. I think I’m going to write about how the author, Ian McEwan, is really a middle-aged man, but is writing through the eyes of a 13 year old girl, but I’m not really sure yet.
In Spanish class, we were talking about the Enlightenment period, and now we’re going to talk about the Spanish War of Independence against Napoleon and France. Did you know that Napoleon was actually 5’6″, and everyone thought he was short because he was measured as 5’2″ in French meters and nobody translated it? I wouldn’t put money on it, but thats something I read, so it must be true.
In Calculus, we’re learning all about the derivatives of inverse trigonometric functions and taking linearzations. If I weren’t learning about that right now, I would have no idea what I was talking about back there.
In Music tech, we just did a project in which we recorded a report we wrote on a musician, and backed it up with some of the artists music, I chose to do Van “Van the Man” Morrison.
In AP Government, we’re doing a lot with politicians campaigns and elections-we’re watching a documentary on the 1992 campaign of Bill Clinton now. Also, the students in the two Gov classes are responsible for leading different seminars on Martin Luther King Day, since we don’t have class on the day. My partner Jonathon “Johnny Cash” Parsons and I are going to do a seminar on Hollywood and African American stories, you know, Remember the Titans, Glory Road, Men of Honor. It should be pretty interesting.
Other than class, my biggest goal and project now is to make an ice rink somewhere on campus. I tried to see if we could use the old tennis courts, but it looks like that’s a no go due to the teams needing to use them at the beginning of the season next spring. So I think we’re going to make one on one of the fields. The greatest dilemma is finding a water source or a long enough hose. Hopefully it will happen though, we also need some colder weather though!
Well that’s just about it for now, but tune in next week, I’ll be writing.
