Welcome to Skate School
The first year I went to the Oregon Trifecta was 2007. At the time Amelia Brodka skateboarded on the Gould Academy team. She was 16. Amelia and I met this little kid who had long blonde hair. His name was Sky Siljeg and he was a little ripper. His mom, Pam Miller, was super nice. She didn’t totally understand what I was doing there with Amelia. “She’s not your daughter?” I tried to tell her about boarding school and our skateboard team. Then, she got excited. “You mean, you work at a school for skateboarders?”
And now we’re doing this thing called Skate School. Life is totally perfect. Sky Siljeg is a fully grown ripper and the misunderstanding Pam and I had is reality. For three weeks in May we’ll bring in a handful of 8th and 9th grade boys who want to both go to school and skateboard as much as they possibly can. There’ll be “skate breaks” during evening study hall. We’ll hit up Rye Airfield a few times. We’ll roadtrip all the way down to Woodward East with Hoodlum pro, Toebee Parkhurt and Toebee will come skate with us a couple other times. This is an absolute first, a boarding school with a skateboard only program. And this is only the beginning. More soon.
