The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics at work
In AP Biology we just discussed the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics: systems will tend towards entropy. In short – chaos is natural.
I love this rule. Maybe it’s because I am a mildly disorganized person and I just like having an excuse for my behavior. But, I honestly appreciate this law. I’ve got a need for change, and it’s good to know that I can depend on one thing – not much will stay the same.
The system of my life seems to be modeling the law quite nicely. Like everyone at Gould, I have a schedule of classes and their times. Sometimes it feels too structured, like I’m boxed in. But in reality, the schedule doesn’t run my life. Entropy is always at work somewhere, changing things up.
Maybe my life is modeling the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics a bit too nicely right now. Timely-ness is forever a struggle and being on the cross country running team doesn’t help me out at all (besides just generally being a silly group, the team also tends to have a problem with being on time). I like a little excitement, but right now entropy is taking control. And if that happens it would make my life more predictable – you could always expect me to be in the balcony for assembly sitting with the other students that were late.
So, this long weekend I plan to regroup and take a stand against this chaos. So far my strategy involves sleep. I wish you all luck in your own battles against the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.
