Teen making waves with biomedical research
BETHEL, Maine (via WCSH6 NEWS CENTER) — Video: A student at Gould Academy in Bethel is making waves in the world of biomedical research.
Demetri Maxim won last year’s Maine State Science Fair with a machine that can detect transplant rejection in patients who have just undergone a kidney transplant. The machine is currently patent-pending.
Maxim is preparing to present this year’s science fair submission, which would prevent the need for a transplant altogether. It’s a method of growing a kidney from stem cells, which has never been successfully done.
