School is Out But The Huskies Keep Playing
Even though the school year has ended here at Gould, our baseball players are still hard at work playing summer ball to get ready for next year’s season. Here is an update on what has been going on:
Jacob Bennett, Caleb Clarke, Chase Harkins, and Brendon Stearns have all been very busy playing for Bethel and Woodstock’s Babe Ruth teams. After their regular season ended, both Jacob and Caleb are playing on the Tri-County All-Star team. Chase and Brendon have also been busy playing for the Bethel/Locke Mills Mountaineers in American Legion Baseball. As first year players, they have done very well playing with an older age group.
Sawyer Harkins and Justin Stearns have also been playing for the Bethel/Locke Mills Legion team. They are doing very well with Justin starting at second base and Sawyer in center field. Sawyer’s bat has really come alive this summer; he is currently on a 4 game hitting streak.
Alec Manning has been playing for both the Legion team and Yankee Ford in the Portland Twilight League. The Twilight League is a summer league for college baseball players (with the occasional underage player), which has been quite an experience for him. Earlier this summer he was in Omaha Nebraska, where he participated in a Baseball Factory Under Armour invitational tournament and got to see a College World Series game.
Ward Saunders and Yutaro Yamaguchi are both busy playing baseball at home in Virginia and Japan. Ward started travel ball as soon as he got home from Gould, and he has numerous games a week. Yutaro has a similar schedule.
