Preseason Camp Opens!!!

March 26, 2013

The 2013 Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team launched its 2013 campaign at 6:30 this morning with a team run to kick off our preseason camp at Gould Academy! The turf has been cleared and and the boys are ready to go.

16 varsity players and two coaches have given up the last week of their spring break to gather as a team and prepare for the coming season. Players will start each day with a captains’ run, a team meeting, and take part in two practices each day in order to get a jump on the competition.

During camp, we will scrimmage Bridgton Academy on Wednesday afternoon at Gould. On Friday, we will travel to Falmouth High School and play the defending Maine Class B Champions. On Saturday, we will take part in the Maine/New Hampshire Play Day at Yarmouth High School. Our trip concludes with our first official game of the season at the Hew Hampton School on Monday, April 1!

Before this morning’s practice began, each player received their team gear which includes a gear bag, helmet, gloves, reversible practice jersey, practice/alternate game shorts, and a shooter shirt.

Some of the boys show off their new schwag:

Once the gear was handed out, we hit the turf for for two, two-hour practices where we swept away the winter’s dust and got down to business with some good old-fashioned fundamentals work. Our evening activity was watching an interesting concussion awareness video. Tomorrow, we’ll concentrate on our defensive sets and then implement our offense on Wednesday.

It’s hard to believe, but by this time next week, we’ll have played our first official game of the season! By making the most of our time at camp, we’ll be ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
