Parent Weekend Meeting: Point and Shoot!
There is not a day that goes by that I am not working on the trip details, and I am getting very excited! Aside form logistics, there are a few fundraisers and supply raisers going on. REACHOUT, Gould’s service outreach group hosted a milkshake fundraiser last week and a Gould alumnae of ’88 is spearheading a supply drive for backpacks and crocs at an elementary school in Palo Alto, CA. We are still accepting these items at Gould and have added a new one, digital cameras.
Last week I met with Ross Kauffman, who won an Oscar for his documentary Born Into Brothels and is the co-founder of Kids With Cameras. (If you missed the buzz, Ross was at Gould working with our students for 2 days.) He impressed the importance of students being able to document their lives–to tell their story through the way they see the world. Inspired and motivated to act, I am expanding the supply drive to digital cameras. Many of us have moved away from our cameras of 4 years ago and toward a smart phone camera. If you have any cameras at home, please consider donating them so the students on the trip can document their experience of the safari and hosting a Gould student.
To help review all the information about the trip and to help understand the needs of your child, I hope to meet each of you at our meeting this Saturday at 10:30 am in the Hanscom Library. Mr. Ruby and I will give an overview of the Four Point program, and specifically the amazing adventure coming right up. For all parents who are unable to attend, we will record the meeting and post a link to a video a few days after the meeting.
Please bring any questions you have about the trip on Saturday morning and we look forward to talking with you soon! Please send an email if you have any questions before Saturday. Remember to view all previous blog postings for information.
