My New Obsession
Well, here we are in the final days before break, and I know I’m not alone when I tell you how excited I am for this vacation. Even though we have been back in school for only two and a half weeks, it has felt like FOREVER. But hey, I can’t complain, there have been plenty of perks these past couple of weeks. Catching fresh tracks on Sunday Punch every Tuesday and Thursday morning, the annual Snowball, my first ski races of the season…and yoga.
Yes. Yoga. My new obsession. The women’s alpine team now does yoga two days a week. Every Monday and Wednesday, we all get to meet together with our instructor Amy Lilly, and for an hour we do some yoga. It’s been so awesome. Like, I can’t even tell you. I had never been into yoga before, probably because I didn’t really understand the significance of it, or how helpful it was to me. I also underestimated yoga at first…how hard could it be? I was prepared to do some stretching, maybe a little core…no. It is quite the work-out! (To all you yoga-gurus out there, I’m sorry I ever doubted you.)
Needless to say, yoga has become my favorite part of the week. Not only is it a good workout, but I feel really rejuvenated and happy afterwards. Our focus as a group is all about finding our ujjayi (ood-jaw-yee) or inner breath. Your ujjayi helps to relieve stress, relax the body, and can even heal the body.
Like I said, I was never really a believer in any of this, until I tried it. Now, I would totally recommend yoga to anyone who hasn’t tried it.
Have an awesome holiday season everyone, see you in the new year! (2012 SENIORS?!?!)
