New Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator

This school year has been like no other. During my 15 years at Gould, every year has been a new year full of challenges, successes, and celebrations. The 2020-2021 school year has proven to be much the same but with the daily reminder that we are operating under new and ever-changing circumstances.

I also want to share that we have hired Tighe Blackadar, MSW, LCSW, as our Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator. Tighe will begin working at Gould in mid-February, and we are excited to introduce him to the Gould community. Tighe has a strong background in clinical and educational social work as well as outdoor education. He will be a great addition to our faculty and student wellness program.

Our Advisory Program

As the Director of Advising and Wellness, I am reminded every day why the Advisory Program at Gould remains the cornerstone of what we do on and off campus. Advisors are committed to working and reaching their advisees in creative ways, they have formed strong relationships with each adolescent in their group, and advisory groups have bonded like school families.

As always, each child’s health and wellbeing remains our top priority, and because the last several weeks have been defined by transition, advisors have taken extra time to be attentive to each student’s needs. This week during advisory meetings, advisors met with each advisee, offered individual support, listened intently to student concerns, and provided resources. As always, counseling services are available through the Gould Health Center as drop-in sessions or on a weekly basis.

This child-centric approach and the partnerships between advisors and families are crucial for the success of this school year. If you ever have any questions or concerns, your child’s advisor is your primary point of contact.

So, as we head into February it is important to remember that we are in this together, we want each student to have the best experience possible this year, and that their health and wellness are our biggest priority.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or Joanna Brown, Director of Health Services, if you have any questions or concerns.
