Julia Getman ’16 to Play in U.S. Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament
Bethel, Maine (Memorial Day Weekend 2015) — According to Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Coach Heidi Godomsky, Gould Academy junior Julia Getman ’16 is the school’s first female ever selected to play on the Maine Girl’s Lacrosse Team. This team of high school female athletes from around the state will play during this weekend’s U.S. Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
“This is quite an honor for her and so well deserved,” Godomsky says of Julia.
According to the event’s website, “The National Tournament, held annually in May with its origins dating back to the early 1930s, returns to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Penn., May 23-24, 2015. The Schoolgirls Division is the largest segment of the National Tournament, with nearly 60 teams competing annually in this division. As such, the event has been become one of the marquee college recruiting events in the country. Players must try out for regional teams in order to participate and the majority of players are rising seniors or younger.”
Julia, currently a captain for Gould’a Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Team, has carried this title since the tenth grade. That same year she was also nominated for All American and was a Maine All Conference Player. Since then, Julia has continued to play on Gould’s Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Team, as one of their leading scorers, as well as on other teams including Elite 360 Recruit Camps (2014), the 207 Lacrosse Team (2014), and in the Boston Tournament (2015).
This weekend, Getman will add the Schoolgirls’ Division of the US National Tournament to this list.
Please join us in wishing Julia the best of luck this weekend!
