Jay Peak, Final Stop of the Ski The East Freeride Tour

March 24, 2016

The Freeride Crew headed to Jay Peak this past weekend for the final stop of the Ski The East Freeride Tour. Coach Rosenberg, John Herron, Tucker Hayward, and Jacob Bennett headed over to Jay Peak on Friday to get a half day of skiing in the afternoon and check out the venue for the competition.

The boys stoked on life at the top of the tram. Overlooking some of the amazing side country Jay Peak has to offer.

After taking a few runs on the competition venue the boys found some good tree skiing elsewhere on the mountain. They then proceeded to go to the Incredible water park on Friday evening.

They were fortunate enough to have beautiful weather all weekend with temps in the low 30s and sunny skies. Saturday was Qualifying for the Finals on Sunday, and despite all the boys having solid runs only Johnny boy made it to Finals, which was disappointing but the competition was stiff. With Athletes from all over the East there including Smugs, Mad River Glen, Okemo, Sugarbush, Stowe, Sugarloaf, and Jay Peak.

On Sunday STE changed the Finals venue from an intense mogul run on a trail called U.N. to a trail underneath the Flyer lift called Exhibition. Most everyone was thrilled about this last minute change of venue. It was a very appropriate trail and name with athletes showcasing their skills right underneath the chairlift. John ended up having a really solid run and placed 11th overall.

The guys had a great weekend at Jay, its still winter up there. They were all stoked to ski in the trees and find some challenging terrain. The competition was fun, everyone had good vibes and were stoked to be there skiing the icy/gnarly terrain. The waterpark was insane, everyone got super pitted on the fake wave despite having to wait in line forever. Tucker may look into a career in fake wave surfing.
