International Families and Brave Students

A warm welcome from our students and their parents in Seoul.

A warm welcome from our students and their parents in Seoul.

It’s such a powerful experience to meet international students in their home countries. They are relaxed and in charge…I’m on their turf and they’re teaching me. I also see the deep bonds between parents and children – the warmth, humor, and care – and the sacrifice that distance imposes. These visits are also a reminder of the bravery and resilience of our international students who study so far from home in a new language and culture. They fill me with admiration.

Over spring break I had the opportunity to meet with our families in Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, and Taipei.

The hospitality and generous support of our families made the trip a great success. Hearing stories from parents about their children, learning how we can better support our international students, and spending time with students at home was a wonderful way to kick off my spring.

Thank you to our international parents around the world for trusting us with your brave children.

To our international students, know that I am an admirer.

Thank you to our families and students in Tokyo for a wonderful evening and for this picture.
