India Student Meeting
Parents of students traveling to India,
Last Tuesday 1/15 Lauren Head and I met with the students going to India. It was a great meeting, fun to see the group together. We talked about some of the details of the trip and answered questions. I am sure you did not get too much information about the meeting form your child so here is a list of things we covered –
Packing for the trip and clothing – We will be experiencing a range of temperatures, in Delhi mid to upper 80’s and then in Sikkim mid 30’s to mid 40’s (with a chance of some warmer temps) I will post a packing list on the 9th grade 4 Point Blog.
Departure plans for March 19 & 20. Again I have posted specific details on the blog as well as made sure the details are available on the infoserver in the 4 Point information and forms section.
We talked about the importance of immersing oneself in a culture and fighting the urge to gravitate toward the familiar. We will not be taking any computers or cell phones, although there will be some opportunity for students to have some computer access. The faculty will have cell phones and will be posting daily on the blog.
We will be collecting books to take over to the Taktse Library, some of their choice some of ours. Our service organization will be helping with this project but as a family it would be great if you selected a favorite book to give to the school as well. Another initiative we are working toward is donating Legos. It is their hope to develop a Lego Lab. Taktse is not looking for kits rather the blocks and the bases.
We talked about the various food we will be experiencing which will vary from Delhi to Sikkim. We also talked about only drinking bottled water.
The last thing we did was watch an iMovie I put together from one of my trips to India. I will share the iMovie with you during our Parents’ Weekend meeting.
