Ice Ice Baby
Happy Friday Everyone!
So, incase you didn’t know, we have been experiencing some pretty cold temperatures this week. It’s been reaching single digits and with windchill into the -20 degree range. In fact, on the news they were warning people to stay inside and not leave houses unless it was absolutely necessary. One might think that this rules out all outside fun. That is incorrect. Instead, here at the Academy, we prosper in the cold air.
This week we didn’t have formal dinner. What did Chase (’16), Mr. Hayward, and I do? We went ice climbing! We didn’t care that the expected temperature was a high of -20 degrees. All we needed was to make sure that we had the right gear to keep warm, a Nalgene full of hot tea, and a sense of adventure.
Here is a little video I threw together. Please take into account that we were filming with my iPhone so the quality isn’t that great. Also, it was -20 degrees so we didn’t want to keep our hands exposed for too long. But, take a look at the ice when the climber is on it. It glows and gives off a cool light.
My lesson for this week? Take full advantage of your surroundings. Not many boarding school students can say that on a Tuesday night when it was -20 degrees they went ice climbing.
Until Next Week,
