Happy Last Week of the Winter Trimester

February 22, 2016

Today I do not have a formal post or a fashion forward tip (although I have been watching Project Runway Allstars…) just a series of random musings and excuses as to why I have been MIA the last few weeks.

When it comes down to it and my biggest reason/excuse of not blogging is that I added another class.  I am now teaching U.S. history to the 8th graders in winter term.  This additional class has taken a little bit more of my free time, the time I used to Glog.  Teaching the 8th graders has been great, they are enthusiastic, engaged, and great kids.  Also, teaching 8th grade has given me a new perspective on how far Gould students come between their middle school and 10th grade years! WOW – deep voices, facial hair (some), awkwardness, height, and some maturity!  Seeing this spectrum is awesome and working with students in each part of their development is great;  making me appreciate where they came from and where they can go.

I took on this additional work/new challenge because I was asked to, but I agreed to do it because I am always seeking new challenges.  I knew I could do it, I just had to figure out a way to make it happen.  I am glad I did!

Early last week, it was bitterly cold on campus, the temps did not rise much above 10 during the height of the day.  This being the case it created little bit of a disturbance in my daily routine.  Last Monday morning, I went outside to start my car before bundling up the kiddos and getting out the door.  Much to my demise my car would not start.  No problem I thought, I will hook up the booster pack and start it.  NOPE it was just too cold!  I called AAA, they came, they started my car and we were on our way 2 hours late for school… The AAA man recommended I get a new battery (mine did not look so good).  I took his word for it; as I do not regularly compare the aesthetics of car batteries.  After class, I went to to NAPA, went home and changed out my own car battery.  Yes, my husband walked me through the whole process over the phone, but I did it!  I am going to add that to my list of valuable talents.  I tell you this not to toot my own horn, but to provide another example of how a disappointment or challenge can turn into an opportunity.

I hope everyone has a great last week and are excited for 4 point!  I will be on campus with the Sophomores,  I can’t wait to get my Arts & Crafts on!
