Gould Player Profiles

May 17, 2013

I thought I would do a profile of a cross section of some of our players.
Yutaro Yamaguchi

Yutaro is a ninth grader from Shinjuku-ku Japan. He has had a tremendous impact on the program in only a short amount of time. He is one of the top pitchers on the team and is very quick in the infield. He has impressed numerous coaches with his fast reflexes and heads-up baseball instincts. Almost as impressive is his language acquisition. He has quickly become very comfortable with English. In fact, during stressful game situations, Yutaro does not revert to his native tongue but is able to communicate in English. Although he is still only fourteen, he was named to the MAISAD All-Star Team. Also, Yutaro has participated in the IMG Sports Academies Winter Baseball Program and plays baseball during the summer in his native Japan. Yutaro also loves soccer and snowboarding.

John Canning

John joined Gould this year as a sophomore and is a member of the JV baseball team. When John first arrived, he was undecided about which sport to play in the spring. After a last minute discussion with his friends, John decided to give baseball a try. He has no regrets. John’s hitting has shown tremendous progress and his on-base and hitting percentage is well over .500. John has not missed a single varsity or jv game as he really enjoys both watching and playing baseball. When John got his first hit of the season, the entire team erupted with cheers for him and the results of his hard work. John is from Lake Forest, IL.

Alec Manning

Alec is a three year junior and also our captain. Alec lives on campus, and access to the field house year round has allowed him to develop his game when others have had to wait for the thaw. Alec is a two year MAISAD All-Star and was selected to the Maine Underclass All-Stars as a sophomore. He was recently asked to participate in the Under Armor select tournament in Omaha, Nebraska in June. Alec also enjoys soccer, alpine and nordic skiing and ice climbing.
