July 21, 2013

Gould Academy Head Coach Jim Dock and Eben Wilde ’13 along with two other Maine high school lacrosse players will represent the state at the U.S. Lacrosse Champion All-American Showcase Boys Division in Lake Buena Vista, FL, July 24 – 26.

“With three players and a coach from Maine being picked to participate in the Showcase, it speaks volumes about the quality of lacrosse being played in the state,” said Gould Academy Boys’ Lacrosse Coach Jim Dock.

The All-American Showcase features the elite high school players from around the United States. Players are nominated and selected by high school coaches throughout the country to compete in a four-team format over three days at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista.

Dock will coach Team Liberty, which features Maine high school lacrosse players Alexander Paulus from Morse High School in Bath and Nicco DeLorenzo from Kennebunk High School. Paulus is a U.S. Lacrosse All-American and first team All-Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference. DeLorenzo is a first team All-Southern Maine Activities Association.

Gould Academy’s Eben Wilde, a U.S. Lacrosse All-American, first team All-Northern New England Lacrosse League, and First Team All-Maine Association of Independent School Athletic Directors (MAISAD), will play for Team Pride.

“I was really disappointed when I learned I’d have to coach against Eben,” joked Dock. “Everything he does on the field from dodges to shooting is precise. He’s got tremendous lacrosse IQ and is a ground-ball machine.”

Dock said that Maine’s participation in the national event not only shows the level of play in the state, it adds Maine to a national conversation.

“When people think about lacrosse hot beds in the U.S., places like Long Island and Baltimore come to mind,” he said. “Now Bethel, Bath, and Kennebunk, Maine can be added to that list.”
