Gould Able to Train at Home Thanks to Sunday River (PRESS RELEASE)
BETHEL, Maine—As one of the warmest Novembers on record has come to a close, Gould Academy’s On-Snow Program has been running business as usual. It is the only independent boarding-school winter sports program in the East that has been able to train at home thanks to Sunday River Ski Resort’s ability to make and keep snow during unseasonably high temperatures.
“It’s a testament to our relationship with Sunday River and their always dependable snowmaking,” Mark Godomsky, Gould’s director of on-snow programs, says. “Having direct access to the most dependable resort in the East is a huge asset to our school because it makes our On-Snow Program the most dependable full-time program in the East.”
In November, Gould skiers and riders boasted over 20 days on snow without having to travel out of their time zone, and the resort handled 200 students during the first week of winter trimester beginning on November 29. Sunday River has also hosted nearly a dozen training camps and schools this season as the industry rides out unseasonably warm and dry weather.
“These kids need a place to train,” Dana Bullen, president and general manager of Sunday River, says. “We have an unbelievable snowmaking system in place here, and we work hard to maintain the snow already on the ground. Since we have the ability to offer good snow, we’re happy to help out teams who can travel to us.”
Since Sunday River opened for the season on October 29, 2011, the resort has also hosted skiers from Bates, St. Sauviere, the National Ski Academy, Green Mountain Valley School, Waterville Valley, Boyne Racing, and Mount Tremblant.
Sunday River is located minutes from picturesque Bethel Village in western Maine’s Mahoosuc Mountains. A true four-season destination, the Sunday River offers eight interconnected peaks of world class skiing and snowboarding, two Grand Resort Hotels, and golf at the acclaimed Sunday River Golf Club. Sunday River is a member of the Boyne Resorts family of resorts and attractions. Visit www.sundayriver.com for more information.
