Community Service at Burk Farm in Newry

February 21, 2011

A lucky group of four students got the chance to help tap trees for sap to make maple syrup at Burk Farm. These students were introduced to the whole process. Mr. Burk has been making maple syrup for years, and was kind enough to share his knowledge of the process with us.

Did you know that it takes 40 – 50 gallons of sap to make one gallon of make syrup ?

Vanessa, Charlotte, James and Doug had to stomp out a trail to every tap, so Mr. Burk could access all the taps later.

Keep up the good work!

This was a first for Vanessa and Charlotte.I think these students have a new appreciation for maple syrup.
