College… Hashtag Seniors!!
First off, my deepest apologies about the No-Glog Monday last week! You may be wondering what is my explanation. I could lie and say my dog ate my Glog post? But that would be a lie. Truth is, I was visiting a college. Actually, no. It wasn’t just any college it was The College. The College of the Atlantic- #1 on my college list, and truth be told, the only college on my “college list”
So, today I thought it would be appropriate to tell all of you (non-seniors) what it is like to be a senior applying to college in the year of 2013-2014. AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!! <– that basically sums it all up for me. Whether you’re applying to 1 school or 15, it’s a guaranteed stress-fest. Not only are we required to fill out the Common App and figure out why our lives are important for the personal essay, but there are also supplements, and SAT’s or ACT’s, there’s interviews, and college tours. There’s recommendations to worry about and due dates to be made, never mind the fact that we are still in school.
My College Search:
I started early! Like sophomore year early. I toured lots and lots of schools, changed my mind a lot and then finally figured it out.
I am happy to tell you guys that I am done with standardized testing! Yahooo! I extremely dislike the notion of SAT’s
Thankfully I have a start on my personal essay- due to College Appreciation Day here at the academy I got some good writing tips!
My advice to juniors:
Listen to your heart- I know it sounds cheezy, but your heart knows best! The moment I stepped onto COA’s campus I knew I loved it
Use the College Counseling team- their awesome!
Focus on school! This year really counts- show ’em what you got!
My advice to senior parents:
Just be there with love and support- care packages are nice too 😉 (Mom and Dad?)
Help you student brainstorm possible essay topics- this helped me a lot!
It’s okay to get emotional
That’s all for now! Talk to you next week!
