Are You Brave Enough
Are you going to the Ghoullog? The most asked question of the week was who was going and who was not. If you were scared? If you had watched the videos or heard the stories from previous years? Adding to the growing anticipation and excitement that couldn’t be contained. As every dinner conversation was centered around the haunted house claiming to be the scariest in New England and the kids who were brave enough to take on the challenge of facing the monsters.
I was one of the kids who opted out, the one who could get any spider out of a room, but a man behind a mask was just too terrifying. As the night drew closer I started to regret my decision, and not just because I wanted to get out of study hall on a Friday night, but I didn’t want to miss out on this activity. As my friends started pilling on layers I started to do the same, saying “I changed my mind. I’m coming.” After the congratulatory hugs and laughter the fear started to set in. What had I gotten myself into?
As the bus pulled into the parking lot I realized I had made my decision and needed to follow though with it no matter how scared I was, or how many people in masks walked up to me. Despite never letting go of Lindsey’s arm and not making eye contact with any of the actors in the haunted house, I did it. To anyone going on Friday tell Darrell I say Hello.
