And We’re Off!

March 21, 2012

Well it’s official folks, we have reached the spring trimester. Arguably the most fun trimester of the year, spring term at Gould means lots of things: outdoor all-school cookouts, Ultimate Frisbee on the upper fields, camp fires by the sauna, lounging in the adirondack chairs, bike rides, lacrosse games and tennis matches, the spring musical (it’s has been announced that it will be the Sound of Music this year) , and of course, GRADUATION! (Sorry, can’t help but get a little excited here)

However, this spring term at Gould is extra special because after a long wait, we can finally use the front stairs/door of Hanscom Hall!

….okay, so maybe that’s a little exciting, but the REAL exciting part is what’s behind the door. After several months of reconstruction and renovation, the Sanborn Family Library is finally finished, and it’s absolutely beautiful. I’m sure many of you have seen the pictures of the renovation process, but if you haven’t here are a few to give you an idea of ‘before-and-after’. (Photos courtesy of Dirk MacKnight)

Okay, so here’s about where we started (this was a little ways into the renovation, in November)

How it was looking in early March..

And finally, finished!

I got to spend some quality time in the library today, and it is absolutely awesome. Even though this is my last spring at Gould, I still feel so lucky to be able to enjoy this new space for the last two months I have here. A very special thanks to all the people who helped make the renovation possible, and who have contributed to making it look so incredible (including the Cooperstone family for helping give us the beautiful back room with windows, and George Mason, whose artwork is hanging from the walls).

So, long story short, if you haven’t visited the library yet, you should.

Thanks for reading guys, see ya next week!

-Izzy

You should get a virtual tour of the new library. Hopefully it works.
