2014-15 Alpine season highlights

The Gould Academy Competition Program hit the slopes and bashed some plastic all over the nation this past winter. As a result, alpine athletes in all the age groups had top results in championship events! They found their speed in Super G, made fast arcs in Giant Slalom, and quick feet in Slalom. 2014/15 Gould Academy Alpine season highlights Include:

Six GACP athletes qualified for the U14 Championships held at Stowe Mountain Resort this past spring. Congratulations to Lilly Drew, Haley Castner, Brook Juneau, Maxx Parys, Joe Godomsky, and Brody Hawthorne. From here, Haley qualified to the U14 Can-Am’s held at Mt Tremblant and finished 14th in Super G.

Caraline Gray ’19, who competed in the U16 Eastern Region Finals held at Sunday River March 13-15, finished 5th in Slalom and 2nd in Giant Slalom.

And during the U16 Eastern Region Championships at Whiteface, New York, which took place March 16-20, Carleigh Leyman ’17 earned a 2nd place podium in Slalom, qualifying her for the National U16 Championship at Sugarloaf (April 1-3) where she placed 13th in Giant Slalom. Carleigh also earned a spot to Eastern Region Physical Assessment Project along with Maddie Simard ’16.

Four Gould Academy student-athletes—Zach Bouchard ’15, Will Kannegieser ’15, Ryan Clermont ’16, and Maddie Simard ’16—qualified for the U18 National Championships at Copper Mountain back in March. Zach had a 9th place finish in the Giant Slalom!

Will, who also competed in the U18 FIS Finals at Okemo Mountain Resort back in March, earned a 11th place in the Slalom.

Finally, during the U18 Eastern USSA Finals at Gore Mountain, New York, Matt Harmon ’17 earned a 3rd place podium spot in the Super G.

It was a busy and productive winter for all of our GACP student-athletes and their hard work paid off with some great results. As for the coming season, opening day at Sunday River is only five months away!
