Senior Four Point Documentary Sets it's Sights on Ski Patrol

Every year, Gould twelfth graders complete a Senior Four Point project that culminates their learning at Gould. Students find creative ways to express themselves, travel the world, and complete service projects as part of this work. Discovering that they are capable of great things is at the heart of every step of the Four Point Program, and this special capstone project is no exception. Learning to collaborate with others, overcome obstacles, and see a project through to completion are all part of the assignment.

This year we are treated to a documentary project by Jonah Miga ’24, who shadowed the unique Gould Ski Patrol program and highlighted all the great work they do while learning to become a filmmaker and storyteller. Here’s what Jonah had to say about his project.

“I wanted to choose a project where I could learn film editing techniques and a little bit of storytelling, so I chose to do a mini-documentary on Gould’s Ski Patrol Program at Sunday River. I was nervous starting out because I had never used any high-end software to edit before, but we have access to Adobe Creative Suite at Gould. I overcame my fear and learned Premiere Pro bit by bit with many tips from my brother, a film major in college. Overall, I’m proud of the finished product.

It was very interesting to see how the ski patrollers trained. I’ve always wondered how they can learn so many different skills and continue to learn after that. One of my favorite parts of this project was skiing with the patrollers. They work hard and look so awesome in their red jackets! Many parts of this project were fun, but I would say the best part was how much I learned. Learning can be fun if it’s something you love!
I was scared going into a project this big, but towards the end I was really proud of myself for learning how to make films (which is very complex).”
