New Faculty Faces On Campus and Position Changes at Gould

It’s the start of a new year at Gould and with it comes some new faces and a few role changes.

In order of appearance in the front row, we again welcome new Head of School Matt Ruby and his wife Kathy. Mr. Ruby comes to Gould  from Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, MN, where he served as the associate head of school. You can learn more about Mr. Ruby’s background and experience as well as the Gould head of school search process via his official announcement in September 2011.

Tom Zicarelli rejoins the Gould faculty in the music department and will work with our instrument ensembles. He attended Berklee College of Music and is an accomplished band leader, teacher and composer. You can learn more about Mr. Zicarelli at his website.

Molly MacLeod joins Gould as an assistant alpine coach in the Gould Academy Competition Program and as a soccer coach in the girls’ soccer program. She received her B.A. in exercise science at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, NH, where she was also captain of the ski team. She comes to Gould from Saint Michale’s College where she was the assistant alpine coach.

New Head Nordic Coach Nick Kline joins Gould after forming the Cumberland Nordic Club in 2011. Coach Kline is a graduate of Colby College where competed in the NCAA Division I Championships in 2008 and 2007. He also served as an assistant coach for the Colby Nordic Team after college. Kristen Kimball returns to the Gould College Counseling Center this year as a full-time counselor after serving as an administrative assistant in the office for the past three years. Before Gould, Mrs. Kimball worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Maine Department of Labor.

From left to right in the back row, we welcome new Director of Advancement Jeff Candura. Mr. Candura joins Gould after six years of successful fundraising at Tufts University. Most recently he was the associate director of the Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences and Engineering, where he and his staff oversaw the frontline fundraising efforts for an $8.1 million annual fund.

Randy Mills joins Gould as its new director of health services. Most recently, Mr. Mills worked as the regional nurse manager for Medical Care Development in Norway, ME. He has also worked for Tri-County Mental Health Services and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Jim Dock returns this year as the new boys’ varsity lacrosse coach and program director after serving as an assistant coach for the program. Coach Dock will also serve as an assistant coach for the boys’ soccer and basketball teams in the fall and winter. Prior to Gould, Coach Dock served as the assistant coach for the men’s soccer and lacrosse teams at his alma mater, the University of Maine at Farmington.

Bob Harkins returns to Gould this year as the director of the winter term program. Previously, Mr. Harkins worked as Gould’s director of special programs where he organized alpine training camps and opportunities for the Gould Academy Competition Program. He is a former coach and director of athlete development for the US Ski Team, as well as a former senior manager at Sunday River Ski Resort.

Matt Erickson returns to Gould this year as the new boys’ varsity soccer coach and program director and as the head U14 alpine coach for the Gould Academy Competition Program.  Coach Erickson previously worked as an assistant coach with J1s and J2s in the alpine program. Prior to Gould he worked as the ski school director at Lost Valley Ski Resort and was the staff trainer at Sunday River. He also served as St. Dominic Academy’s head boys’ soccer coach and was a club coach for Maine Coast United.

Not appearing in this photo is Eric Wallace who joins the Gould Academy Competition Program’s alpine staff as an assistant coach. Prior to Gould, Coach Wallace was head alpine coach at Freeport High School as well as head J1-2 USSA FIS coach for the Shawnee Peak Race Team.
