A spirited environment

Traditions. They are a part of any culture, including ours, which spans nearly two centuries.

From social events to celebrating our outstanding natural surroundings together, our many traditions are just another way our community keeps tightly knit. These are just a few:

Every fall, students anticipate Mountain Day, when the community takes the day off and hikes nearby Tumbledown Mountain. Each winter, dorm residents and day-students battle on the snow-covered upper field to earn prestigious Winter Carnival bragging rights.

Each December, Bingham Gymnasium is transformed into a wintery wonderland for Snowball – complete with a live big band and dancing.

Upon arrival to Gould, new students adventure into the woods and waterways of western Maine, guided by faculty and student proctors.

During early morning trips in the spring, brave Polar Bears sacrifice themselves to nearby icy waters. Not for the faint of heart.
